All referees are required to attend a Referee Certification Clinic. A Referee Certification Clinic is a class for entry level referees. The classes are sanctioned by the SYSL and the various clubs that are members of the SYSL take turns hosting the course. You do not need to take the clinic hosted by Greenhaven; you make attend any clinic within the SYSL boundaries.
The clinic consists of four nights of class time and one field session. Complete attendance is mandatory at each session. You may not take part of the clinic at one club’s session and then finish it at another club’s session. Upon successful completion of the clinic, which includes passing a test at the end, you will be given a certification which is good for one year. If you wish to continue refereeing in subsequent years, you must pay a fee each year, but you do not have to re-take the course or the test.
NOTE: Greenhaven Soccer Club will be hosting a Referee Certification Clinic in June. Registration is on-line only. Cost is $75 broken into two payments: $45 is paid on line at registration and $30 (cash or check made out to SYSL) brought to the first class session. Locations are Didion K-8 School 6490 Harmon Drive Sacramento 95831 and the Robbie Waters Library 7335 Gloria Drive Sacramento 95831.
